1. The activation dialog box is displayed and prompts you with two options, 'Activate Now' and 'Activate Later'.

   If the 'Activate Later' button is selected, the product will prompt you to complete activation each subsequent time it is launched. The 'Activate Later' button can only be selected to bypass the activation process 5 times before the product must be activated. If the product is not activated after this period of time, it will either operate in a reduced functionality mode or it will cease to operate completely until it is activated.

2. Click on the 'Activate Now' button and the 'Activate Automatically', 'Activate Manually' and 'Cancel' (the same as 'Activate Later') buttons are displayed.

   Clicking on the 'Activate Automatically' button sends the Machine Fingerprint and Serial Number combination to the Activation Server over the internet. The Server then sends back an Activation Code and the product is activated (unlocked), without any further user interaction.

How to Activate your ScanSoft Product Manually

The 'Activate Manually' button accomplishes the same task as the 'Activate Automatically' button, however the user is required to manually enter the Machine Fingerprint and Serial Number into corresponding fields on the Nuance web site and then click on the 'Generate Activation Key' button in order to create an activation (unlock) code. If you do not have Internet access your product must activate manually. In order to accomplish this, you will need a computer with internet access and follow these instructions.

1. Click on the 'Activate Manually' button to open the 'Enter Key' dialog box on your computer.

2. Copy the serial number, machine fingerprint and activation website url.

   Note: Steps 3 though 5 must be performed on a computer with Internet access.

3. Open the webpage to the activation server on the computer with internet access.

4. After the activation server web page opens enter the serial number and machine fingerprint provided on the 'Enter Key' dialog box into the corresponding fields on the webpage.

Problem:

When installing and/or launching a Nuance application, the following error message may appear:

'This program requires a security key. If you have one, select OK to enter it. After entering a valid key, you will not be prompted again.'

An 'Enter Key' dialog similar to the following will appear.

Note: The Hardware fingerprint will be different, this is an example.

Solution:

This dialog will appear if a hardware change has occurred while a Nuance application was installed on the system. The appropriate Name and Key must be entered to fix this problem. Follow these steps:

1. In the name field, enter the serial number exactly as you received it. Include all dashes/hyphens. There are only Zero's in the serial number, there are no O's.
2. To get the Key, open the following webpage:

4. On the activation webpage, enter the Hardware Fingerprint exactly as shown on the 'Enter Key' dialog into the 'Machine Fingerprint' field.

7. Click 'OK' to complete the activation process.
